Tell us what you’re building.
Who this is forYou are a nurse or midwife of African origin, wherever in the world you practise. Newly
qualified or thirty years in, at the bedside full-time or long since moved into something else,
based in Lagos or Nairobi or Manchester or Melbourne. That is the whole eligibility list.
You do not need a large following. You do not need a registered business, a finished product
or a title on a website. You do not need to have left nursing, and we would rather you hadn’t.
More than you think.
You might have founded something, or be quietly building it in the hours around your shifts.
You might teach, mentor, write, research, campaign, or sit on a board. You might work in
policy, digital health, education, aesthetics or global health. You might create content that
reaches thousands of nurses who have nobody else explaining the process to them. You
might run a business that has nothing to do with healthcare at all, and do it well.
We are not looking for the finished article. We are looking for the version of you that your
ward manager has never seen.
If you are reading this and wondering whether yours is big enough to count, it is. In our
experience the nurses least likely to put themselves forward are the ones most worth
featuring.
What counts as more than your clinical role
A written feature in your own words, built from a conversation rather than a form, so it reads
like you and not like a press release.
A professional portrait alongside it, and a set of graphics sized for LinkedIn and Instagram
so the piece is easy to share.
A permanent link that is yours. Put it in your bio, in a grant application, in a speaker
proposal, in an email to someone who has never heard of you. It stays live and it stays yours.
Distribution across NHA’s channels and to our community of nurses across the continent
and the diaspora.
There is no cost. There has never been one and there will not be one.
What you get
You apply. Fill in the short form below, or nominate someone else. It takes about five
minutes and there is no writing test.
We talk. If it’s a fit, we book a conversation of around thirty minutes. Video or voice,
whichever you prefer. We ask about the work, the route you took to it, and what it cost you.
We write it up. You see the full draft before anybody else does, and nothing is published
until you are happy with it.
We publish and share it. Your feature goes live on the Spotlight page and out across our
channels, and you get the assets to share it yourself.
We publish one feature a month. If we cannot fit you in immediately we will tell you honestly
and hold your application rather than letting it go quiet.
How it works
Most nurses will not put themselves forward. They will read this page, think of three
colleagues more deserving than they are, and close the tab.
So put her forward instead. Nominations take two minutes and we will approach her
ourselves. She never has to know it came from you, though we suspect she would like to.
Know someone who should be here?
